Although the 2015 Philadelphia mayoral election won’t be held until November, Democratic candidate Jim Kenney has a commanding leading over his closest competitors.
Will Kenney, who will most likely by the Philly’s next Mayor, be as Hip-Hop friendly as current Mayor, Michael Nutter?
Mayor Nutter hasn’t hesitated to flaunt his Hip-Hop foundations. He recently hopped on stage and recited “Rapper’s Delight,” with The Roots, has praised Meek Mill and even expressed his appreciation for DJ culture as well.
Well, Jim Kenney is working hard to prove he’s down with Hip-Hop culture as well. This weekend, Kenney will turn in to “DJ Jimmy Jamz” during a popular networking event in the city.
DJ Jimmy Jamz will take over the TGIFriday on Benjamin Franklin Parkway to spin a variety of classics to benefit a local organization. Kenney has planned a set of classics for his guest appearance at “Flow,” a long-running networking event in the city of Brotherly Love.
Kenney will include old school Hip-Hop, some Gamble & Huff and of course a few tracks by his favorite artist Tupac Shakur.
Proceeds from DJ Jimmy Jamz’ set for Flow will benefit the Philadelphia Opportunities Industrialization Center, which provides training for disadvantaged people.
