Rapper and fashion maverick Kanye West gave some shine to a budding designer during New York’s fashion week.
Kanye popped up at a fashion show for Brother Vellies, where designer Aurora James was showcasing her upcoming Spring footwear collection. Aurora James’ entire footwear line is inspired by traditional African styles and is made exclusively on the continent.
Her Brother Vellies line came to prominence thanks to the success of the flagship store on Fulton Street in Brooklyn.
And James recently became a finalist for Vogue’s Fashion Fund competition, which is held in partnership with The Council of Fashion Designers of America and Vogue, to support emerging talent.
The winner will take home the $400,000 top prize while the runner-ups will be awarded $150,000.
The fact that Kanye showed up shows not only his level of commitment to fashion but also underscores his continuous work with students, as well as new designers.
It’s a great look for Brother Vellies too.
But even Kanye’s influence will not sway the prestigious CFDA panel of judges who handle picking a winner in the competition.
The ten finalists competing for the grand prize of $400,000 will have to participate in some advertising and marketing challenges before the winner is announced on November 2 in Hollywood.
