The stoner’s weekend is big business for Denver. Last year, the city saw a 73% year-over-year gain in hotel searches for check-ins during the weekend.
In 2014, artists like Snoop Dogg, Wiz Khalifa, 2Chainz and A$AP Rocky participated in major concerts. Additionally, High Times magazine’s Cannabis Cup took place in Denver during the weekend to capitalize on the influence of weed heads.
Even though this year’s celebration falls on a Monday, Hotels.com revealed that check-ins for the April 17-20 have surged.
The weekend has already seen a 60% rise over last year’s check-ins. The upward trend was seen across the state of Colorado with searches for the whole of 2014 registering a 51% gain over 2013.
Washington and Oregon, which is on the cusp of legalization, have all experienced huge increases in tourism and travel since July of 2014.
That’s great for rapper Snoop Dogg, who will host his 2nd annual “Wellness Retreat” in Seattle, Washington, on April 19th. Snoop will present another “Wellness Retreat” party on 4/20, in Denver with High Times magazine, during the Cannabis Cup.
The rap star invited his guests to “inhale, exhale and recharge for a once in a lifetime concert in a state that celebrates and protects legal marijuana.”
