Pusha T Explains Why Designing Sneakers Is Harder Than Making Music

Pusha T understands his fan base.

The former Clipse member has captivated Hip-Hop listeners for years with his intricate stories about high fashion and the world of drug dealing.

The theme continues for his upcoming albums Darkest Before Dawn: The Prelude and King Push, as well as collaboration with Adidas.

Pusha T launched his King Push x EQT Running Guidance ’93 with Adidas. The black on black sneak is the follow-up to the original Chalk White EQT’s.
Pusha is not new to the world of high fashion or designing. He has his boutique line Play Cloths and has frequently collaborated with A Bathing Ape. However, his latest efforts are gaining him some big exposure.
Pusha has landed on the cover of Footwork News’ December 2015 edition, where he discussed the effort it takes to design a sneaker.
Like G.O.O.D. Music honcho Kanye West, Pusha T is of the opinion that designing sneakers and clothes takes much more effort than creating music.
“They both take a lot of thought, but it’s definitely easier to create music because you have more options to pick from versus options to construct a shoe,” Pusha T said. “The process is very similar in regards to marketing and the rollout of it — it’s very tedious and time-consuming.”
Pusha consolidated these efforts in the promotion of his new albums Darkest Before Dawn and  King Push. Last month, he hosted a listening session in addition to debuting the sneaker for tastemakers in Manhattan. More recently, the rapper celebrated his limited edition Flaunt magazine cover and his short film trailer titled “Darkest Before Dawn” during an exclusive Flaunt + Guess party in Miami.
Pusha’s sneakers merge his fashion sensibilities with the underground street culture, much like his music.
“Street culture, that’s what this was about, the underground,” the rapper told Footwear News. “We had a whole black-market theme. That’s why we did the release event in Chinatown; it had a lot to do with the packaging and the aesthetic of feeling like you were doing something a bit underhanded.”
The King Push x EQT limited edition run with Adidas is in stores now. Pusha’s Darkest Before Dawn: The Prelude hits stores on December 18 while King Push is due in stores before the end of the year.
