Students at Hofstra University are hoping to take the record label to the next level.
The students run the Mane Records imprint from campus and they just signed their first big act, a 22-year-old Brooklyn rapper name izzeYe.
The rapper, who is also an alumnus of Hofstra, was approached by the students earlier this year.
Through Hofstra’s music industry course, the students have immersed themselves in all aspects of the music business, and their goal is to sign one or two artists each year, according to Newsday.
So far, the deal is has been great for izzeYe, who is going to open for Lil Wayne on October 7 at one of Hofstra’s biggest annual school concerts.
