Getting to the top of the Billboard Chart is the dream of many artists.
A #1 record or album means tour dates, award shows and the perks that come with landing the coveted position.
But do the Billboard charts really reflect consumers taste?
Elias Rappaport of 34st.com makes the argument that the Billboard charts are a bit out of sync.
“College students’ music preferences are marginalized by Billboard’s outdated ranking ideology,” Rappaport argued in an article titled “How Billboard Top 40 is Misrepresenting Millennial Music Taste.”
“The Top 10 is meant to be a list of the most popular songs in America, yet few of us seem have even heard of half the songs listed,” according to Rappaport.
